Cloning is the artificial or natural production of an identical copy of something and generally refers to the copying of a living organism such as a plant ,animal, cell, bacterium etc.

In nature the process can occur naturally through asexual reproduction where no mixed genders are required i.e no necessity for male and female genes to produce offspring. The lack of sharing of parental genes confers both advantages and disadvantages in offspring.

The clear advantage in sexual reproduction is the diversity that ensues and the facilitation of an evolutionary trend in a species or organism.

On the other hand the relative perfection of an identically copied genome also brings with it some potential advantages. This is not surprising given that nature itself uses both methods to good effect.
